Techiman Municipal Health Directorate adopts measures against yellow fever epidemic

Dr Kwabena Fosohene Kusi, city manager of health services at Techiman South, said management was ready to follow the yellow fever outbreak through surveillance in the area.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, Dr Kusi said that although the area has not yet registered any cases, surveillance has been put in place in and around health facilities in the municipality and its surroundings to verify and trace the records of people infected with the virus to prevent the spread.

He said management has also embarked on sensitizing the community on the outbreak of the disease in some areas such as the savannah and stressed the need for residents to be careful and move with caution to avoid infection with the virus.

Dr Kusi said that as part of the preventive measures, the Directorate has started open vaccination of adults and infants to prevent an outbreak and the spread of the disease.

He stressed the need for people to prevent mosquito bites because mosquitoes contained the virus and said keeping environments clean by weeding bushy areas, cleaning neighborhoods, drying up standing water would prevent the reproduction of the virus. mosquitoes and sleeping under treated mosquito nets was also an effective preventive measure.

Dr Kusi urged the general public to report any symptoms of fever, headache, vomiting, severe jaundice and bleeding to the nearest health facility for immediate attention and treatment.
