Starchild: Malaysian children have their own creative take on fusion cuisine

Fusion cuisine describes the combination of various cuisines from different parts of the world. An extremely popular example of fusion cuisine is Tex-Mex cuisine, a mix of dishes from Texas, the United States and Mexico. Tex-Mex food includes quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas, and guacamole. Have you tried any of these foods?

Fusion cuisine is also popular in Malaysia. Have you ever eaten tom yam fettuccine? Or maybe a satay burger? Here’s what Starchild readers had to say about Fusion Food.

Jayden Tan Li Sheng, 9 years old

Chuah Seng Koon, six, thinks fusion cuisine is special because he can combine his favorite dishes – sushi and pizza. “I’m going to eat a macaroni pizza with sushi. Imagine having my toppings of sushi, salmon, pepperoni, roast chicken, tomatoes, macaroni and cheese. However, I have to remember to boil the macaroni for at least 10 minutes. Finally , spread my favorite sauces – tomato and honey mustard on top.

“We eat fusion food at home with meals like fried spaghetti in soy sauce eaten with local vegetables. I think kuih bakul wrapped in seaweed, fruity sushi and sweet potato dumplings would make a delicious fusion dessert,” writes a seven-year-old. Bethany Wang Qi Syuen.

Cadet Asher Wang Qi Chuen, four, love the nasi lemak, served with fries. “This fusion meal is delicious with lemonade. This is my best combination of fusion cuisine.

“I don’t like fusion cuisine. But I think I can make a special dish. I will add Japanese sushi and pepperoni. I will put some kinds of sushi like salmon, octopus and egg sushi on the pizza. The pizza also has two bunny ears. I hope many children will like it, ”wrote Wong Cheng Yangeight.

Wong Jie Ern, six, says, “I don’t have a favorite fusion food. I like fried chicken and nuggets. I like both because they have crunchy skin. I like to eat them with rice and it’s really good. I also like to dip it with tomato sauce.

Jayden Tan Li Sheng, nine years old, writes: “My favorite is the spaghetti my father cooks for us. The ingredients he adds are spicy sambal shrimp, garlic and fried onions. He throws chicken and shrimp. We’ll have it with chicken soup. It’s delicious and I love the fragrant spices of the sambal and the fried onions. It’s so delicious!
